Leading New York website development expert explains how a company’s domain name is important to the success of its online presence.

“Even if a company’s desired domain name is unavailable, there are a few ways to find a website name that will still maintain that company’s image,” says Crisafi. “For example, if the desired dot com is taken, the business may consider searching for other options such as a dot net or dot org.”

Crisafi uses the example of a business named, “Luigi’s Pizza.” If www.luigispizza.com is not available, he explains, the owner may want to consider luigispizza.org or luigispizza.net if they are available.

“Another way to maintain a business’s corporate identity is by using a hyphen in the website title,” says Crisafi. “It may not be ideal and it could make finding the business a little more difficult, but it is worth it to maintain the brand name.”

A hyphenated example, he explains, could be www.luigis-pizza.com. Adding words or letters relevant to the business is also a great way to maintain brand or business identity when the desired domain name is unavailable.

"Say, for example, that Luigi’s is located in New York,” Crisafi says. “The owner may want to check for the availability of luigispizzany.com.”

This will also discern the business from others throughout the country that may have the same business name, he explains.

“The whole idea here is to be creative and flexible,” says Crisafi. “However, businesses need to keep in mind that domain names should not be too long, they should be relevant to the business that the website represents and the name should be something that users will remember.”
